Court convicts 27 Ogun motorists, school proprietor dies

A Magistrate’s  court  in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday convicted 27 motorists for violating traffic  laws  in the state capital.

The court however gave the traffic offenders option of fine ranging  from  N2,000  to  N10,000.

Magistrate Ayodele Akinyemi, convicted the motorists for driving vehicles with damaged  windshields,   fake  driving licences, overloading, non-use of  seat belts,    over speeding, dangerous driving,  and number plate violations.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Legal Officer, Mr. Usoma Enwereuzo, had  told the court that the offenders were apprehended while violating traffic rules and regulations  in  different parts of the   metropolis on Thursday.

Enwereuzo added that the offences committed by the motorists were punishable under the Corps Traffic Codes Laws and urged the court to sanction the motorists in accordance with the dictates of the laws.

The magistrate however cautioned and discharged three of the 30 traffic offenders arraigned before the court.

Meanwhile, the proprietor of a popular group of schools in Abeokuta,  Dr. Folarin Dalley, and one   unidentified person were killed in an auto crash at Onipepeye Village along the Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway on Wednesday night.

Six other persons were also seriously injured in the accident.

The Head of Operations,  Ogun State Command of the  FRSC, Mrs. Cecilia Alao,  said this while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Alao said the crash, which involved   a Toyota Camry  marked Lagos  AAA 181 AA, a Mitsubishi space wagon, marked Ogun  LAR 55 XA, and a Honda car number plate Lagos KSF 224 AT,  was caused by overspeeding.
