According to the Hollywood Reporter, hip-hop/media mogul Russell Simmons has signed a new first-look deal with HBO. The arrangement allows Simmons to create and develop projects for the premium cable network. HBO gets the “first look” at any project Simmons develops, with him having the option of shopping it somewhere else if they decide to pass.
Simmons has executive produced “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” on HBO and the reality shows “Run’s House,” which starred his younger brother Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons on MTV; and that show’s spin-off “Daddy’s Girls.”
He also executive produced the 2006 Tyrese film Waist Deep.
